Lucky!

I am LUCKY!

Last school year, SY 2011-2012, when I was assigned to be the new Eaglet 2 teacher, I was fortunate to be handling my first Owlet students.  They were the first students I taught when I came to OIS.  I was thankful because I loved these kids, I knew them well and they knew me too.  The new students added more fun and joy to the class.  This worked to my advantage because we had a very successful year indeed.

This school year, SY 2012-2013, I am once again given the opportunity to handle a class I previously handled; the second Owlet class I taught.  I am thankful to be given the opportunity to be their teacher again.  I loved them when they were in Owlet and I am definitely loving them now that they are in Eaglet 2.  We also welcome new students to the group, namely Ruruka, Seiru, Tokiha and Tsuneaki.  They will add more color and fun to our class.

So why am I lucky???
I am lucky because I will be a witness to their growth.  I am sure the parents will often hear me say “They were so different... or They have changed a lot... or They used to be... and now they are...”  It is doubly rewarding to be their teacher because I am a witness to how much they have grown and blossomed and I was part of their change not once but twice.
I am lucky because I can finish what I have started when they stepped into KIndergarten.
I am lucky because I get to hug, play, cuddle and kiss them before they move up to another level; the Elementary level.
I am lucky simply because I get to be their teacher and be with them for a year again.

Truly, I am LUCKY!

Eaglet 2 Family Trip

Last November, the Eaglet 2 class started their campaign to help save the Yanbaru Kuina.  This started out as part of tje lesson on endangered animals.  As the students learned more about the endangered animals in Okinawa, the more involved they got with the cause.  Their E2 parents and OIS community joined us in raising awareness of the plight of the Yanbaru Kuina.  We made posters, composed a song and had it played on RBC radio station and held several fundraising activities.  We raised a total of \ 55, 406.  These were donated to a non-profit volunteer group, Okinawa Animal Hospital in Yanbaru.  This helped in the daily expense of feeding the Yanbaru Kuinas under their care.

To reward the efforts of the Eaglet 2 class, the Eaglet 2 teachers and Okinawa Animal Hospital, planned a trip to Yanbaru Discover Center.  The people from Okinawa Hospital, Mr. Kinjo, Mr.Nakachi and Mr. Shinzato, prepared a video about Yanbaru forest.  The parents saw the students in action as they answered and inquired about Yanbaru and its flora and fauna.  They also served as our guide as we went on a Yanbaru Forest walk.  We also had a picnic and played at the park at the end of our tour.
It was truly an enjoyable day.  We hope that the Eaglet 2 class will continue to protect and inform people about the Yanbaru Kuina.
It was a wonderful and memorable day that everyone will not forget!

Thank you!

Fundraising Efforts

Last November 25, Mr. Kinjo and Mr.Nakachi, from Okinawa Animal Hospital (a Non-Profit-Organization), and Mr.Shiroma, from Conservation Department of Okinawa Prefecture, visited E2 class to talk about the Yanbarukuina (Okinawan Rail). They discussed the following topics: habitat of Yanbaru kuina, reasons why they are endangered and ways to protect the animals in Yanbaru. The children listened attentively to the lecture and asked a lot of questions after the presentation. Afterwards, the class handed over the donation that was obtained during the class’ mini fundraising activity. As a token of their appreciation, Mr.Kinjo and Mr.Nakachi gave the class a photo of a Yambarukuina.

Mamacita, Donde esta Santa Claus?

The Eaglet2 students will sing "Mamacita, Donde esta Santa Claus" for the Christmas carols.

Mamacita, Donde esta Santa Claus?

Mamacita, donde esta Santa Claus? Donde esta
Santa Claus? And because I don't believe.
Mamacita, oh, where is Santa Claus? I look for
him because it's Christmas Eve.

I know that I should be sleeping, But maybe he's
not far away, so I close the window and peep in,
Hoping to see him in his sleigh.

I hope he won't forget to bring his castinet,
And to his reindeer, say, "Oh Pancho, Oh!
Vixen, Oh! Pedro, Oh! Blitzen," Ole! Ole!
Ole! cha cha cha.

Mamacita, donde esta Santa Claus? Oh! Where is
Santa Claus? It's Christmas Eve.
