Fundraising Efforts

11月25日ヤンバルクイナの保護活動をしている、NPO法人どうぶつたちの病院沖縄から金城さんと仲地さん、沖縄県自然保護課から城間さんがクラスを訪問してくださいました。金城さんからやんばるの動物たちの現状や、ヤンバルクイナの生態と絶滅の危機にある理由(交通事故やマングースによる被害など)、保護するための活動について教えていただきました。子どもたちは熱心に話を聞き、たくさんの質問をしていました。そして11月18日の募金活動で得た募金を手渡しました。お2人方から、感謝の言葉とヤンバルクイナの写真をいただきました。
Last November 25, Mr. Kinjo and Mr.Nakachi, from Okinawa Animal Hospital (a Non-Profit-Organization), and Mr.Shiroma, from Conservation Department of Okinawa Prefecture, visited E2 class to talk about the Yanbarukuina (Okinawan Rail). They discussed the following topics: habitat of Yanbaru kuina, reasons why they are endangered and ways to protect the animals in Yanbaru. The children listened attentively to the lecture and asked a lot of questions after the presentation. Afterwards, the class handed over the donation that was obtained during the class’ mini fundraising activity. As a token of their appreciation, Mr.Kinjo and Mr.Nakachi gave the class a photo of a Yambarukuina.

また子どもたちは、12月3日の創立記念ファンデーションデーでもメッセージとダンスを発表し募金を呼びかけました。そして皆さまのご好意により4500円が集まりました。募金は同団体の新里さん手渡し、支援に対する感謝状を頂きました。
During OIS Fundraising Day last December 3, the class presented their "Endangered Song" and asked for some donations to help raise more funds for the Yanbaru kuina. The class raised
4500yen from that program. They presented their donation to Mr. Shinzato, a representative from Okinawa Animal Hospital. In return, Mr. Shinzato presented the class with a certificate in appreciation of their help and support.

A Successful Exhibit and Fundraising

People lining up, buzzing sounds, and children’s excited chatters were the sounds we could all hear during Eaglet 2’s mini exhibit and fundraising activity. This activity was dedicated to the parents, whose unwavering support truly made this unit engaging and inspiring for everyone. The students performed their campaign song, “Danger Song”, with much enthusiasm and gusto. They were also excited to show their diorama, paintings and campaign posters of endangered animals to everyone. The fundraising was even more exciting! They were busy handing out flyers to parents and teachers; selling cookies, pens, toys, mugs, towels and bags; while others were busy serving lemon tea to the thirsty customers. It was truly a huge success!! So successful that we raised Y18,200!!! The money will be donated to help a Yanbaru Kuina shelter in Kunigami Village.

11月18日、学習の総まとめとして学習発表会が行われ、多くの保護者や小学部の生徒、先生たちが集まりました。イーグレット2クラスの生徒たちは、キャンペーンソング｢デンジャー・ソング｣を元気に披露し、その後会場に飾られた絵やポスター、ジオラマなどの作品について観客に説明しました。動物保護活動を支援するための募金活動では、手作りのチラシを配り、手作りのクッキーやペン、寄付されたおもちゃやカップ、タオル、バッグを販売しました。活動は好評で、18,200円の収益を得ることができました。収益は国頭村のヤンバルクイナ保護活動をしている団体に寄付されます。

We would like to thank the parents for donating items for the fundraising and taking the time to attend the activity; OIS teachers and staff for attending the exhibit and buying from the students, especially when they went around to sell the final items on sale!! It was a sold out event.

Congratulations Eaglet 2 class! We hope your dedication and commitment to help endangered animals does not stop here. Keep moving forward!!

In our case, it took the Eaglet2 community to fully engage the students in learning about endangered animals. Before we end our inquiry, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the parents who took time to help the students research on endangered animals. We are very proud with how involved the parents and students are in this inquiry. Your overwhelming support made our inquiry so informative and engaging. This helped in developing the research and reporting skills of the students. You enabled us to go further into our inquiry. We had students bringing reports and drawings to class, researching in the library, buying books about animals and going to Yanbaru to take pictures of the Okinawa rail or Yanbaru kuina. One student even had the initiative to give out flyers to people to inform them about endangered animals. These actions would not have been possible without your encouragement and patience in answering the children’s questions and feeding their curiosity.
イーグレット2クラスでは、生徒たちみんなで絶滅危惧種について学んできました。学習もまとめに入りますが、保護者のみなさまには、生徒たちが絶滅の危機にある動物たちのことを調べるお手伝いをしていただいたことに感謝申し上げます。保護者のみなさまと生徒たちが、ともに学習の探究をしてきたことをとても誇りに思っています。みなさまの支援によって多くの情報を得、関心を深め、より深く探求することができました。生徒たちは調査レポートやイラストを持ってきたり、図書館で調べたり、動物について書かれた本を買って来たり、実際にヤンバルを訪れヤンバルクイナの写真を撮って来たりしていました。ある生徒は自らチラシを手作りし、絶滅危惧種について人々に知らせようと活動をしていました。これらの活動は子どもたちを励まし、彼らの質問や好奇心に忍耐強く応えることなしには現れなかったことでしょう。

It was truly a fun and exciting October for the Eaglet 2 students. We started a new inquiry on endangered animals; we learned about endangered animals in Okinawa; we had our first three-way conference and we just finished our Sports Festival! What an eventful month. Thank you parents for your support. Great job Eaglet 2 students!
10月はイーグレット2クラスの生徒にとって、本当に楽しく興奮に満ちたひと月でした。私たちは絶滅の危機にある動物について探究し、沖縄の動物たちについても学びました。E2になって初めての三者面談、そしてスポーツフェスティバルでは一生懸命頑張り、大きな成長を見せてくれました。E2のみんな、よくやったね!!　そして保護者の皆さまのご協力に心より感謝申し上げます。

November will mark the culminating activity of the Eaglet 2 student’s inquiry on endangered species. They will hold a mini exhibit to show what they have learned and will come up with a campaign on how they could help endangered animals in Okinawa. We will need everyone’s support to make our activity successful.

As we start the new semester, we want to extend our warmest THANK YOU!s to our parents for all their help and support. Your contributions made it possible for everyone to enjoy learning. Thank you to our resource speakers Mr. Shostak for talking about the development of computer games, Mrs Yamamoto for talking about technological inventions for hearing impaired people. and Mr. Takata for sharing the TAKATA TV video and giving tips on how to present in front of the class. We would also like to thank Mr. Someya for being our resource speaker on our unit transportation. We are all excited to visit your company and see one of the airplanes!

Budding Inventors

Last week the Eaglet 2 students made their own inventions using recyclable materials. It took them 3 days to finish everything! This activity tickled their imagination and creativity so much that some of them even made more than one invention!

Welcome back to school Eaglet 2 learners! We hope you all had fun during the summer vacation. It’s now time to have fun in class!
Everyone was excited to see their classmates. They gave each other big hugs to welcome their friends back to school. Some of them were so happy to see their classmates that they couldn’t stop talking and chatting with each other. It was a great way to start the class, on a high and happy note. Stay tuned, because pretty soon we just might welcome some new friends to our class. :D

夏休みが明け、Ｅ２の子ども達がクラスに帰ってきました!　夏休みを楽しく過ごせたでしょうか。さあ次はクラスで楽しみましょう!　子ども達は久しぶりに友だちと会って大興奮。抱き合って喜びを表現していました。嬉しすぎておしゃべりがとまらない子もいました。クラスはこのように始まったことは嬉しいことです。そしてまた新しいお友だちが増えそうですよ。

Today was one of the most difficult and fun day I’ve experienced as an Eaglet 2 teacher. Expecting mostly complaints and some excitement from the kids, I never anticipated their reaction to our challenge, “No Inventions Day”.
今日はE2クラスの担任を経験した中で、困難であり楽しくもある1日でした。生徒たちは多くの苦情といくらかの興奮を予想していましたが、彼らの｢発明品のない日｣への挑戦は、私の予想を超えたものでした。

Since we are learning how inventions affect our lives, we thought that experiencing a day without inventions will truly show them how big an impact simple inventions have on their lives. The first things we removed were the lights, air conditioning and electric fans. They didn’t complain much about not using the light since it is a sunny day and the sun provided us with enough light in the classroom. However, a few minutes after switching the AC and fans off, we already heard complaints about the heat. Every few minutes someone will come to us to complain, “I’m hot”, “I cannot work because it is hot” or “I’m tired.” We asked them to think of ways they can cool themselves. Ruka Sasaki said, “We can use paper to make a fan”. Rula said “We can use our hands to be a fan.” While Shiryu said, “We can blow air to our own and to each other’s faces.”
発明品が私たちの生活にどのような影響を与えているのかを学ぶため、発明品がどのように多大なそして強い影響を与えているのかを経験してもらおうと、私たちは発明品を使わない日を設けることにしました。まず教室の電気やエアコン、扇風機の電源を切りました。その日は天気の良い日だったため、電気をつけなくても教室には十分な明るさがありました。しかし、エアコンと扇風機を消して数分後、暑さに対する苦情の声が聞こえてきました。その後彼らは数分ごとに代わる代わる、｢暑いよ｣｢暑いから勉強できない｣や｢疲れた｣と訴えに来ました。そこで彼らにどうしたら涼しくなるかを尋ねました。るかさんは｢紙でうちわを作ろうよ｣と言い、るらさんは｢手をうちわがわりに使ったらいいよ｣と提案しました。またしりゅうくんは「お互いに息を吹きかけたら涼しいよ」と実践して見せてくれました。

The next thing we banned was using their scissors and glue for the activity. We asked them to think of ways they can cut and paste their work. Most of them tore the paper using their hands only, but not Mikey. He used a ruler to cut the paper properly. According to him, he saw his mom do this once and he remembered so he did the same thing. Good job Mikey!
次にはさみやのりを使わずに紙を切ったり貼ったりする方法を考えさせました。ほとんどの生徒たちは手で紙をちぎったのに対し、まいきくんは定規できれいに紙を切ることを思いつきました。彼は以前お母さんがそれを使って紙を切っていたことを思い出し、そのまねをしてみたのだと話してくれました。すごいね、まいきくん!

Now how do you think they were able to stick the paper to their work? Can you guess from the pictures?
Yes! They licked the paper, making sure it was wet enough to stick to the other paper! Kids truly are amazing! Some even got their rice and used it as a glue. :-) While doing this activity we asked the students the following questions:

Which one do you prefer to use, a glue or rice or licking the paper?

And do you know which ones some of them preferred? You will be surprised with some of their simple and practical answers.

みなさんが彼らの明快で実践的な答えを聞いたら、びっくりすると思いますよ。

Next we asked them to wash some rags with their hands instead of using a washing machine. They really enjoyed this activity. Who wouldn’t want to play with soap and water? Although some gave the usual answer of wanting to use the washing machine so that it is faster and easier, Ruka had a different idea. He preferred to wash with his hands. 次に生徒たちに洗濯機の代わりに手で雑巾を洗ってもらいました。彼らは石鹸と水を使って遊びながらこの活動を楽しんでいました。洗濯機を使ったほうが早く簡単に洗濯ができるとほとんどの生徒たちが答えるなか、るかくんは違った考えを持っていました。彼は手で洗うほうが好きだと応えました。どうぞその理由を動画で聞いてみてください。

Ingenious isn’t it! Helping each other and working together does make work easier and faster.
天才ですよね!　確かに皆でお互いに助け合えば、仕事を簡単に早く仕上げることができるのです。

Next, they ate with their hands, used stones as our toys and brushed their teeth with their fingers and salt. It was like a picnic, eating on the floor and using our hands. Since they only have stones to play with, they invented their own game and really enjoyed playing. They liked brushing their teeth with their fingers and using salt as their toothpaste. As one kid said, it is faster since you don’t need to get a toothbrush and she could eat the salt. Hehehe!
それから生徒たちは手で食事をし、おもちゃの代わりに石を使って遊び、そして指と塩で歯を磨きました。みんなで床に座って手で食事をする様子はまるでピクニックのようでした。遊び道具が石しかなかったため、彼らはそれを使ったゲームを考え出し、本当に楽しそうに遊んでいました。また彼らは指と塩で歯を磨くことを喜んでいました。ある生徒はそのほうが歯ブラシを使うより早くて、塩は食べても大丈夫だからと答えていました。面白いですよね。

In the afternoon, we asked them to look for ways to write their names on paper and to find places where they can write their names. Some of the things they came up with are the following:
午後には屋外へ出て、鉛筆を使わずに紙に名前を書く方法や、名前を書ける場所を探す活動をしました。
Things used for writing: rock, twigs, leaves, flowers, dripping water and even dried poop! Don’t worry we didn’t let them try poop, but who would have thought that they will think of using that for writing. :)
Things you can write on: floor, wall, big rocks, leaf, tree trunk and wood.
生徒たちが見つけた名前を書けるもの：石、小枝、葉っぱ、花、滴る水、犬のウンチ(試しはしませんでしたが、ある生徒が考えたものです)

Our challenge lasted for one day. At the end of the class, when we told them we can finally use inventions, everyone rejoiced. Some were dancing under the electric fans and savoring the cool air it blows. It was a tiring day, especially with the heat. But recalling the things they said and their happiness in trying new things made this day truly memorable. And guess what, some of them wanted another “No Inventions Day”! You rock Eaglet 2!
この体験は1日で終わりました。クラスの最後に再び発明品を使うと、みんなそれを喜びました。ある生徒は扇風機の下で踊り、涼しい風を心ゆくまで楽しんでいました。疲れた1日でしたが (とくに暑さに)、本当に忘れがたい1日でした。数人の生徒はもっと｢発明品のない日｣をしたいとまで、言っていたのです。よく頑張ったね、E2 !

Rules, rules, rules!

What will happen if there are no rules?

People will die because they will not follow the stop light.
The toilets will be dirty because people will write on the walls.
The community will be dirty.
There will be robbers (dorobo).

These are just some of the replies we got from our students. Anywhere we go, there are rules to be followed. Even on the streets, people need to follow rules. Rules are important to keep a happy and comfortable life.

In OIS, the students are aware that rules exist and have to be followed. To remind everyone of these rules, the Eaglet 2 students placed their posters around the school.

Let us all work together as one community and follow these rules!

もし規則がなかったらどうなるの？
・信号機に従わなかったら人が死んでしまうよ
・壁に落書きをしたらトイレが汚くなってしまうよ

・泥棒がでてくるよ
これらは規則について生徒たちが考え応えたことです。私たちは行く場所で、そこにある規則を守らなければなりません。通りでさえ人は規則を守る必要があります。規則は幸せで快適な生活のために大切なものなのです。

生徒たちは学校には規則があり、それを守らなければならないことを気づいています。そして自分たちでポスターをつくり学校内に貼りました。

MUSIC CLASS　音楽クラス

“Do~ Re Mi Do Mi Do Mi Re ~Mi Fa Fa Mi Re Fa~”

You can hear the E2 students singing this line during Music class or free time in and out of the classroom. They are memorizing the notes for playing their Kenban harmonica. Students hear and identify music in their daily life. Music is composed of various things like melody, tempo, rhythm and length of sound etc. “There are two dos but the sounds or pitch is different”, “Why are there two Dos?” and “ I can’t play same beating time with teacher’s hands…” . At first, they played by trial and error. It is important to listen to friends when playing in a concert. Students choose their leader and sets the rhythm by clapping and beating with his hands. Some of them who go to piano class enjoy teaching others and learn how to teach. They learn various things through music.

ド~レミ~ドミドミ　レ～ミファファミレファ～

音楽の時間や自由時間に、E2クラスの生徒たちが音階を口ずさんでいるのが聞こえます。彼らは鍵盤ハーモニカの練習をしているのです。今音楽のクラスでは、普段何気なく耳にしている音楽がどのように作られているのかを学んでいます。音楽はメロディーやテンポ、リズムや音の長さなどたくさんの構成要素から作られています。「同じドなのに音が違うね」「どうしてドが2つあるの？」、「手(拍子)と合わないなぁ」毎回クラスでは試行錯誤する姿が見られます。グループに分かれて合奏の練習をする際には、友だちの演奏を聞きながら合わせて演奏することも大切になってきます。自分たちでリーダーを決めリズムを合わせたり、ピアノ経験者は教える楽しさと難しさを学んだりと、彼らは音楽を通していろんなことを学んでいます。

Japanese Class

Reo and Tomoya's birthday celebration

We have simple rules in our class. First rule, be on time. Second rule, speak English please. Third, be a team and help each other. Lastly, speak Japanese during Japanese class. These rules were agreed upon by everyone. This means I also have to speak Nihongo during their Japanese class. I am learning Japanese with my students. I know simple Hiragana and Katakana. So this means I am at the same level, or even a lower level, with my students. Now how do I survive Japanese class? Well, my students are now my teachers! They ask Teacher Mariko for a worksheet for me. Depending on where I am sitting, Tomoya, Nina H., Luke, Ruka S. or Niina T. translate what Teacher Mariko is saying and explains the instructions to me. They guide me through the Japanese class and give me encouraging words when I do it correctly. And like any teacher, they are very proud and happy for me whenever I get things correctly.

As my students learn English and I learn Japanese, we share the difficulty and frustration of trying to learn a new language. But as we go through the school year, I hope that we will all graduate with a better grasp of both languages. So to everyone in Eaglet 2 class and to myself, Ganbarre masu!

なひらがなとカタカナは彼らと同じくらい(または少し低いレベルかも)知っています。そのた

め日本語クラスでは彼らが私の先生になることがあります。今は一緒の机に座っている、とも

やくん、になさん、ルークくん、そしてるかさんやにいなさんが、ティーチャーまりこの説明

を訳してくれます。彼らは日本語クラスの間、私を指導し上手にできるように励ましてくれま

す。そして先生のように、私が正しくできたときには喜んでくれます。私たちはお互い新しい

言葉を学ぶ難しさを感じています。でもこの１年間を通して、私たちは両方の言語をもっとよ

One Proud Momma!

It’s not unusual for me, an English speaking teacher with minimal knowledge of Nihongo to just listen and watch my students whenever we go on an EOP (Educational Outbound Program). You might be wondering why I do this, well simply because most of the people in the places we visit speak Nihongo and have minimal knowledge of the English language. With my little knowledge of Nihongo, I try my hardest to listen and guess what the speaker is saying (I sometimes get it right though!) and then usually ask my students to translate for me. Otherwise,Teacher Mariko explains it to me so that I get a clear idea what the students and the speakers are saying.

私たちが校外学習”EOP”にでかけるとき、周りにいる人々はほとんど日本語を話し、英語を知

っていることはまれです。そのため私はじっと耳を傾け生徒たちを見つめて、会話の内容を耳

をすませて聞いています。時々その内容が分かることもあるとはいえ、大抵は生徒たちに内容

を訳してくれるように頼んだり、またティーチャー.マリコから生徒や話し手の会話を聞いて内

容を理解しています。

Our trip to the Convention Centre last Tuesday was no different. Majority of the exhibitors speak Japanese only. It was our typical EOP. While we were inside the exhibit room and watching my students talk animatedly to our guide, my students did something I didn’t expect. Without me asking, Reo tapped me gently and with a serious face told me in English what the guide was saying! He was trying hard to explain how a satellite capsule works! I was very proud and touched by this simple kindness and consideration. He never left my side and tried very hard to explain everything to me. As if this was not enough, I heard Hina ask the guide if he could speak English and explain that her teacher couldn’t understand Japanese! This warmed my heart even more and I’m sure I was wearing a proud grin till we went out of that room. As teachers, we look out for the well-being of our students, but on that day, I was taken cared of by my students. I was definitely one proud Momma!!!

私たちは先週の木曜日にコンベンションセンターへ校外学習へでかけました。展示会場にいる

人たちはほとんどが日本人で、日本語を話していました。展示会場の中で、生徒たちはブース

にいる人たちに何やら一生懸命尋ねていましたが、そこで予期せぬ事が起こったのです。れお

くんが黙っている私を軽くたたき、真剣な顔でガイドの人が話していたことを英語で説明し始

めたのです。彼は一生懸命、衛星がどのように活動しているのかを説明しようとしていまし

た。その行動は私の心を打ち、私はとても誇りに思いました。その後も彼は、私の側を離れず

一生懸命すべてを説明しようとしていました。これだけでも私を感動させるのに十分だったの

ですが、今度はひなさんが日本語の分からない私のために、英語で説明してくれるようにガイ

ドの人に尋ねてくれたのです。私はこの温かいやりとりに、会場を離れるまで笑顔が止まりま

せんでした。私たちはこのような生徒たちの素晴らしい行動をよく目にするのですが、この日

は生徒たちに助けられた１日でした。そして私は、お母さんが子どもを誇りに思うような気持

ちを味わったのです。

How do you get from here to there?

“How do you get from here to there, what do you do?” As we continue our inquiry in transportation systems, we will investigate on the best and most convenient ways of getting from one place to another. What mode of transportation should you use if you want to go to the park and play? How do you get from the supermarket back to your house if you have 3 heavy bags of groceries with you? What mode of transportation should you use if you want to go to Ishigaki Island? These are some questions we will answer as we continue with our investigations. Of course in every inquiry, our fun and up beat dance songs will not be missing. We are learning a new song, “New Way to Walk” from the Muppets’ Sesame Street. The eaglet 2 classroom was buzzing with children’s voices when the Eaglet 1 students came to visit the classroom for our presentation and Community exhibit. The Eaglet 2 students welcomed their younger friends from Eaglet 1 class by singing and dancing. They sang two songs they learned in their inquiry about community. The songs were the “Community” song and the “TEAM” song. The Eaglet 2 students were very excited to perform their songs and show everyone their own ideal communities. Their visitors asked questions about places in the community and the different activities they could do in the community. They showed their work with confidence and readily answered the questions thrown at them. Everyone had fun with this experience. You made me proud Eaglet 2!

イーグレット２クラスでは、総括的評価として、イーグレット１クラスを招いて発表会を行い
ました。まずは“コミュニティー”と“チーム”の歌とダンスで歓迎し、続いて空き箱やペットボト
ルなどの素材で作り上げた、自分たちの理想の地域社会を紹介しました。訪問者たちは彼らの
地域社会にあるいろんな場所や、そこでどのようなことができるのかを質問し、イーグレッ
２の生徒たちは自信をもって説明していました。みんなが楽しんだ、すばらしい発表会でした
よ、イーグレット２の皆さん!

The ending of one unit means the beginning of another. On our second unit, we will focus on transportation systems and how they offer convenience to the community. To introduce our inquiry, the students were asked to make any mode of transportation system they know. Some made boats, buses, rocket ships and trains. These are just some of the things they knew about the lesson. As we inquire deeper into the unit, we hope everyone will learn the value of having an efficient transport system and how this helps our community. Let’s all ride the Eaglet 2 express and journey into learning!
今月中旬からは新しい学習単元に移り、乗り物がどのように地域社会を便利にしているのかを
学習していきます。まずクラスでは自分が知っている現代の乗り物について話し合い、自分
の好きな乗り物を絵に描いたり作ったりしました。そして彼らが作ったボート、バス、ロケ
ット、船や電車などいろんな乗り物が教室の壁を飾りました。これからクラスでは様々な交通

Eaglet 2 class is finally here!

いよいよ新イーグレット２クラスが始まりました。新しい靴箱の前でどきどきしながら自分の名前を探し、名前を呼ばれてわくわくしながら舞台に上がった始業式の日から１週間。彼らはもうすっかりイーグレット２クラスの生徒として、新しい学習に取り組んでいます。
Students looked for their names in front of shoe boxes with pounding hearts. As their names were called, they went on stage with eagerness and excitement. The new Eaglet 2 class is finally here! It took one week from Opening Ceremony for the students to adjust to the new schedule and routine. They have also started working on their first inquiry as Eaglet 2 students.

最初のテーマは｢地域社会｣。地域社会はどのように作られ、その中での人々の役割や規則について考えます。そして学習の最後には、自分がどのような地域社会を作りたいのかを想像します。あなたはどのような地域社会を作りたいですか？子どもたちと一緒に考えてみてはいかがでしょうか。
They are now learning about community. They think of how a community is shaped, what people’s roles are and the rules in each community. And lastly, they will imagine their dream community. What kind of community do you want to live in? Shall we imagine with your child?

Reunited!

“Reunited and it feels so good...” It really feels good to be reunited with my old students. We all face new challenges as we all enter Eaglet 2 class as beginners. Although I had a little apprehension at first, this was all erased once we started our class. My students have changed a lot. They are more responsible, more focused and their English communication skills have improved too. One thing remains the same though, they are still the same sweet and caring students I first handled.
「再開と喜び」昔の友人との再開はとても良いものです。私たちは新しいイーグレット２クラスのメンバーとして再会しました。そしてクラスが始まってしまうと、私の最初の心配はどこへやら消えてしまいました。生徒たちはすっかり変わっていました。彼らはより責任感をもち、より集中し、英語でのコミュニケーション力も進歩していました。でも彼らは私が初めて担当した時と同じ愛らしさをもっています。

We also welcome the new school year with new friends. We have 7 new students in class, namely Alex, Hiryu, Luke, Mikey, Misaki, Rinka, and Shiryu. Our learner profile, OPEN-MINDED, truly fits our situation in class. The students welcomed them with open hearts. It was as if they have been classmates for months! They also opened their ears and listened to what their classmates say. The students are also showing community spirit in class. This is aptly suited to our first unit which is about COMMUNITY.
また新しい友だちが来てくれました。７人の新入生はマイキくん、みさきさん、りんかさん、アレックスくん、しりゅうくんそしてルークくんです。私たちの理想とする学習者像「心を広く」は今のクラスの状況にぴったり当てはまります。生徒たちは心をひらいて新しいお友だちを歓迎しています。もう一月もずっとクラスメイトだったみたいです。また彼らは耳をすませて友だちの話しを聞き、共同体の精神を示しています。これは最初の学習テーマ「コミュニティー」にふさわしい状況といえるでしょう。

For this month, we will discover how People’s activities and views shape their community. This will be the focus of our inquiry. We will go on educational trips to help in discovering the answers to our questions. We will invite resource speakers to give light to the difference in the Okinawan community before and now. As we study this unit, we hope to become communicators, inquirers and open-minded learners. We will also inculcate the value of responsibility.
今月私たちは人々がどのように活動し地域社会を作り上げているかを学習していきます。そして疑問の答えを求めるべく、学校の外へと出ることもあるでしょう。また沖縄の今と昔を知るためにお客さまをお招きします。この学習単元を通して、彼らがコミュニケーターとなり、深く考える人となり、心をひろくもった人になることを期待しています。そしてまた責任を持つことの重要性を教えていきたいと思っています。

Just by looking at our planned activities, I can already feel that this will truly be a fun and challenging year!
